Dear Anna,
I’m feeling a lot of pressure to do all-things-A.I. How do I balance being myself amidst all of this Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) stuff?
Signed,
Still human
Dear Still human,
For those of us still interested in human-ing, here are three things that I think humans do better than other creatures or artificials:
1. Art. Creating art, enjoying other people’s art, inspiring art. Make the most of human-created art – on the street or anywhere around you. Relishing art – your own or other people’s – will help you to feel calm, refreshed, and expansive. Check out the work of Positive Street Art – while they are headquartered in Nashua, New Hampshire, they create beauty all over the world!
2. Music. Play it, listen to it, be with it. Music can help you to focus, to move, to exercise. It can help you to connect with other humans, or to help you to get your work done.
3. Laughter. Laughter can inspire connection, playfulness, and creativity. It can be a tool for healing. Dr. Madan Kataria invented the practice of Laughter Yoga – where we laugh for no reason – and it is practiced across the globe.
To be sure, some artists and musicians use A.I. as a tool to enhance their work. They co-exist with A.I. As I have written about in other posts (here: https://askannabanana.substack.com/p/let-ai-enhance-you-not-replace-you and here: https://askannabanana.substack.com/p/naming-when-you-use-artificial-intelligence) using A.I. can be different things to different people.
Navigating what it means to be human in an A.I.-driven world provides an opportunity for each of us to identify what are the things that we enjoy doing so much that we would not want A.I. to do it for us. And for each of us, how and when we approach A.I. will be different.
What is something that you do at work that you want to keep doing while fully human? Keep me posted on your journey.
